Application Warsaw ECOC 2016 I and II stage prepared by the City of Warsaw

about article

Warsaw – Candidate City for the European Capital of Culture 2016

"We will pioneer and programme public realm improvements, such as skwer.eu – a bottom-up project that can be taken further only with ECOC support. It is a plan to develop an area over Świętokrzyska metro station into a pop-up sports park for Warsaw citizens and commuters. The design was developed through workshops by five young architecture studios from Warsaw and Cracow and consulted with potential users – from senior neighbours to teenage skateboarding enthusiasts."

"Young extreme sports enthusiasts and architects, supported by the NGO Polska Młodych (Young Poland), are planning to develop an empty square over Świętokrzyska metro station into skwer.eu: a pop-up sports park. The design was developed through workshops by six young architecture studios from Warsaw and Cracow, and consulted with potential users – from senior neighbours to teenage skateboarding enthusiasts."

"We are also keen to highlight Warsaw Smile – a series of design and art interventions, initiated by the architects Sebastian Bałut, Małgorzata Kucewicz and Simone de Iacobis and the In Situ foundation aiming to re-animate and highlight an arc-shaped sequence of streets cutting through the grid pattern of the city (Mokotowska-Bracka-Zgoda), now divided and not legible, potentially linking spaces of leisure and culture: from the park Pole Mokotowskie park to the new agora in front of the Centre for Modern Art and the Palace of Culture."
