entry in the competition- winter 2008/2009
A two-phase open contest called for design proposals for the new city theater and an active cultural center directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. The given plot, along with the sole post-industrial building to be kept offered a number of possibilities for a general layout. Taking under consideration the fact of impossibility of fitting the obligatory main stage surface into the old building's space divided by pillars we've proposed a new building placed along the existing one. The gap between two would become a public street providing a number of extra-theatrical activities in a climatically controlled space.
Another important issue was to provide an outdoor space accessible to local inhabitants too, that would play the role of theater's summer extension and green space for other public activities.
